WINTER: Pantomime Season (December - January). Traditional pantomime performed at many theatres throughout Ireland. Dublin Film Festival (end February - early March). International films at various venues. Belfast Music Festival (end Februaty - mid-March). Young people take part in music (and speech and drama) competitions. SPRING: Feis Ceoil, Dublin (end March or early April). A classical music festival held at many different venues throughout the city. Pan Celtic Festival, Tralee (mid-April). A lively celebration of Celtic culture, with music, dance and song. Belfast Civic Festival and Lord Mayor's Show (mid-May). Street parade with bands and floats. Royal Ulster Agriculture Society Show, Belfast (mid-May). A three-day show with diverse events ranging from sheep-shearing competitions to fashion shows. Fleadh Nua, Ennis (end May). Four days of traditional Irish music, songs and dance. SUMMER: Laytown Beach Races, Co Meath (late May or early June). Horse races on the sand. County Wicklow Garden Festival (all June). Held at private and public gardens around the county, including Powerscourt. Women's Mini Marathon (early June), Dublin City. Bloomsday, Dublin (16 June). Lectures, pub talks, readings, dramatizations and walks to celebrate James Joyce's greatest novel, Ulysses. Scurlogstown Olympaiad Celtic Festival, Trim (mid-June). Traditional Irish music, dance, fair and selection of a festival queen. County Wexford Strawberry Fair, Enniscorthy (end June-early July). Includes a craft fair, music, street theatre and, of course, strawberry. Battle of the Boyne Day (12 July). Memebers of the Orange Order march in towns across Northern Ireland to celebrate the Protestants' landmark victory over King James II's Catholic army in 1690. Galway Arts Festival (third and foutrh weeks of July). Processions, concerts, street theatre, children's shows and many other events in the medieval city centre. Ballyshannon International Folk Festival (end July or early August). Three days of traditional Irish music. Dublin Horse Show (first or second week). A premier showjumping competition and social event. Kilkenny Arts Week (middle of August). A major arts festival including poetry, film and crafts. Rose of Tralee Festival (end August). Bands, processions, dancing and selection of the "Rose". AUTUMN: Waterford International Festival of Light Opera (mid-September - early October). Musicals and operettas at the Theathre Royal. All-Ireland Football Final (3rd Sunday of September), Croke Park, Dublin. Octoberfest, Londonderry (all October). Dance, poetry, film, comedy, theatre and music. Ballinasloe Fair, Co Galway (first week of October). One of Europe's oldest horse fairs, staged amid lively street entertainment. Hallowe'en (Shamhana) (31 October). An occasion celebrated all over the country. Cork Jazz Festival (end October). An extremely popular festival, with music all over the city. Sligo International Choral Festival (early November). Choirs from around the world in concert and competition. Belfast Festival at Queen's, Queen's University (end October to early November).
