Ireland… Everyone who visited it keeps unforgettable impressions about this Emerald Isle. It is
a mysterious country of legends and folklore, with the fantasy that was incarnated in the reality by outstanding
heirs of the ancient Celts. Dublin – is a recognized center of culture (yes, it is not a big brewery of famous
Guinness only!). It's home to such great names of the world heritage as James Joyce, Jonathan Swift, Oliver Goldsmith,
Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde and four writers that won the Nobel Prize – Bernard Shaw, William Yeats, Samuel Beckett
and Seamus Heany. Also Eire (as Ireland is known for its native speakers) is the cradle for lots of music talents such as U2, Cranberries, Westlife, Boyzone, Bob Geldof, Thin Lizzy, Sinead O’Connor, Chris de Burgh, Enya, Samantha Mumba and much more other artists. You can find the representatives of Ireland in Hollywood, too (could you imagine this?). Movie celebrities Pearce Brosnan, Gabriel Byrne, Collin Farrel, Aidan Quinn, Richard Harris, and film directors such as Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In The Name Of The Farther, In America) and Neil Jordan (Mona Lisa, The Crying Game, Michael Collins, The Butcher Boy) make the Irish contingent quite a considerable force at the Factory of Dreams. The island if Ireland covers an area of 84,340 sq km. Lying in the Atlantic Ocean to the northwest of mainland Europe, it is separated from Great Britain by the Irish Sea. The Republic of Ireland takes up 85% of the island. There are 32 counties in the island of Ireland and 26 of these comprise the Republic. The island is divided into 4 provinces: the nine counties of Ulster in the north; the six counties of Munster in the south; the five counties of Connacht in the west; and the twelve counties of Leinster in the east. Dublin is the capital of the Republic and has good international communication links. Most visitors to Ireland come through Dublin, either by air or on the ferry to Dun Laoghaire or Dublin Port. The main ferry routes are from Wales, Scotland and France. There are also international flights to Shannon, Belfast and Cork airports. Many European flights are routed via Great Britain, but flight times are generally only around an hour on from British airports. Dublin City is also the capital of Co.Dublin, which is one of the 12 counties of Leinster. County Dublin is located in the in the southern half of the only extensive coastal lowland in Ireland. In the north of the county gently rolling landscapes caress the fertile Central lowlands and the historic Boyne Valley, while in the south the Dublin - Wicklow mountain massif keeps guard over the vale of Dublin below. The River Liffey, rising in the Wicklow Mountains, winds its way down to Dublin City and through its centre into Dublin Bay. Dublin has the whole bundle of attractions, whether it is a great museum or gallery, splendid park or garden, magnificent ancient castle or church… History, culture and traditions of the Irish are definite places of interest for most visitors. Me and Max always try to see something new, and we find it around almost every corner as the country is rich in wonderful sights. The history of the establishment of these places can be interesting and exiting, sometimes sad and dramatic, or romantic and happy. I hope this site can give you a hint as to what the masterpieces of ancient Celts are but if you're not completely convinced here, you'll need to take a trip over here and then you're sure to love it. Because seeing is believing, isn't? I can promise you won't be disappointed (neither by my site nor by Ireland)! |
